Nishiki-e (Multicolored Print), ink and color on paper. Villagers kneel along a path as the Daimyo processions pass, the tail end of which can be seen disappearing off the right side of the image. On the opposite side is a walled bank topped with trees. Below the hill in the foreground scene are wide flat fields rendered in a gradient of green and yellow with soft orange clouds overhead.
Nishiki-e (Multicolored Print), ink and color on paper. A scene of the beginning of the road at Nihonbashi. Coming across the bridge is the front of a daimyo procession, the street ahead in the foreground is filled with townspeople. On either side buildings and fences box in the composition and create a tight, busy scene. This print is the second of two existing versions that includes more people in the foreground and an altered subtitle. The original title was ‘morning scene’ but this title makes direct reference to the daimyo’s procession present in both versions. This second version was only published by Hoeido.
Nishiki-e (Multicolored Print), ink and color on paper. Once again we see the nihonbashi now in the first version of the print that was published by both Hoeido and Senkakudo. Fewer people passing on the street in front of the bridge. The head of the daimyo procession can still be seen crossing the bridge.
Nishiki-e (Multicolored Print), ink and color on paper. The daimyo’s procession crosses a long trestle bridge from left to right. On the far right side, at the end of the bridge, a village and castle can be seen rising above the treeline.
Nishiki-e (Multicolored Print), ink and color on paper. In the foreground, two hills on either side of the composition slope down to the center. In the dip, the sailing boats on the water can be seen, along with huts and drying fishing nets along the shore. Just behind the right hillside is the Daimyo’s procession descending the path and heading to the left.
Nishiki-e (Multicolored Print), ink and color on paper. A daimyo procession crosses a bridge in the rain over a rushing river in the lower right-hand corner. They headed towards a village hidden in the tree in the upper left of the image. The rain here is created by a veil of fine lines creating the illusion of hs rushing down toward the ground.
