Amory Orchard, a PhD student in Rhetoric and Composition at Florida State University, discusses the personal and professional impacts of COVID. As both a teacher and a student, she shares how this crisis has put her life into "a stasis of constant reflection" as she, along with others in her field, questioned how to transition to online. She has found that a mix of synchronous and asynchronous teaching is best, to check-in often with students but also to accomodate those whose access to technology is limited. Amory has found support among her students, as well as her graduate cohort, her family, and her cat, Teddy. She hopes that we will learn to check in with each other more, even when there is not a pandemic.
