Nishiki-e (Multicolored Print), ink and color on paper. In the foreground is a mother and her two children. Behind them is the approach to Ikegami Honmon-ji Temple. The temple grounds are lavishly decorated and busy with people. The crowd behind the family leads viewers eyes down the shop lined street to the stir leading up to the large temple in the upper left-hand corner of the image. The occasion is Eshiki, a Buddhist ceremony held by temples of the Nishiren sect. Honmon-ji's was particularly lavish because tit was the temple that the founder Nichiren had spent the last years of his life.
