This narrator works at a public high school in Upstate NY as high school remote ELA teacher for students who have opted out of in-person school due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this interview we discuss her early experiences with education, how she became a teacher. She tells her story of how the Covid-19 virus shut down her school and the work she did to make teaching both equitable and engaging. She shares her insights into the specific impact virtual learning is having for students academically and some of the concerns she has about teaching with a virtual learning curriculum. She also discusses the impact George Floyd’s death and the subsequent National Black Lives Matter had for students, the broader systemic reactions to the protests in her district, and the responsibility teachers have in affecting change through anti-racist teaching.
