Inscribed on back: On June 14, the American Red Cross second anniversary of its Personnel Training Unit's activities on the campus of Washinton's American University, Massachusetts and Nebraska Avenues. The training of men and women as Red Cross workers, both overseas and domestic, which began early in 1942, was enlarged in June '42 when it was moved from downtown Washington to the college campus. Further enlargement is expected. This is one of a series of pictures on typical activities of students in training. When the day is fine, lunchers sprawl on the grass below the upstairs "snack bar", and food is lowered by a dumb-waiter system created by Red Cross canteen workers with novel and pleasant ideas (American Red Cross photo by Weston Haynes)
