- Title
- Tharu Men
- Date
- 1971
- Creator
- Rude, Ronald
- Description
- These three Tharu men are leaders of panchayats (the most local political unit of Nepal). They were recruited to judge exhibits at our agricultural fair. Indigenous to the Terai, they once lived in malarial jungle separating them from India until the jungle was cleared around 1950. By their features they are obviously related to Indians to the south rather than Nepalese to the north.

- Threshing with Tractor
- Date
- 1969
- Creator
- Rude, Ronald
- Description
- Wealthy landlords can sometimes afford tractors and here a tractor is being used to press the kernels of rice out of the hulls. Most threshing is done driving oxen around and around over the rice until the grain has been pressed out. Fifty years later, I would guess oxen are still the predominant way to thresh.

- Weighing of wages
- Date
- 1969
- Creator
- Rude, Ronald
- Description
- A manager weighs out wages to a worker who will carry the grain home in this blue, one piece garment called a lungi. It is worn by men like a skirt tied at the waist. This manager and his landlord were honest. They used “pucca” or full/accurate scales as opposed to “kutcha” or short.

- Wheat Harvest
- Date
- 1969
- Creator
- Rude, Ronald
- Description
- These fields will be harvested by landless servants , but since this is a demonstration plot, B.N. Jha shows me how the sickle will once again be used to cut the wheat crop by hand. Now, 50 years later, I have no doubt that these fields are still being harvested by hand.

- Women
- Date
- 1970
- Creator
- Rude, Ronald
- Description
- Nepal is clearly a melting pot of cultures. The lady in the lead is certainly an import from the high Himalayas in northern Nepal or possibly as far south as Katmandu. The two ladies dressed in white are very likely Tharu, indigenous to the Terai. The woman in red could be from any part of Nepal (especially Katmandu and south) or even India. All are on their way to market. Please note the different methods of carrying and dress.
