- Description
- The Maithili Brahman culture was predominant in southern Nepal around the city of Janakpur and neighboring Bihar (India). Marriages in the Maithili Brahman culture were arranged once per year at a special gathering called Saurat Sabha in northern Bihar province. Here a potential groom, wearing a pink hat, is on display. When an agreement is reached between two families, the bride’s family will agree to pay a negotiated price for the right for her to marry him, in this case 2200 Indian rupees.
