Description:
Nishiki-e (Multicolored Print), ink and color on paper. A nighttime city scene depicting one of the streets inside the licensed red-light district. A crowd of visitors and residents of the red-light district move from the gate on the right side of the image to the main road that opens up on the left. Amongst the crowd are several women dressed in clothing typical of sex workers, and the corner of a lattice front viewing room can be seen on the left side. All of this helps indicate the setting in the red-light district.
