Description: Nishiki-e (Multicolored Print), ink and color on paper. A nighttime snow scene depicts a village in the middle distance with hilltops just in the distance. In the foreground is a hillside with snow-covered vegetation that makes the viewer feel as if they have just turned the corner into town. Travelers settle from the snow as they walk the white-covered road. This is the second version of this print; this state includes no lines in the knees of the figure to the far right and is rendered in a darker gray.

Series Description
Originally published by Hoeido (Takenouchi Magohachi) and Senkakudo (Tsuruya Kiemon) ca 1833-34. This series is in a horizontal oban (large size) format and is commonly called the Great Tokaido. It depicts the 53 station of the Tokaido road, a route that ran from Edo to Kyoto. This series was printed in two versions, the first jointly by both publishers and the second by only Senkakudo. The Spinks collection version is a mix of prints from both versions.
